My biggest observation about the book is that I thought it really could have been combined with the fist one. But even as she succumbs to Duncan's seduction, she fears that he has a hidden agenda. I really liked the first book Hunger but I'm not sure that this story lived up to expectations. While I enjoy her writing the plot itself did not really engage me. Duncan is basically your standard alpha.
That was the first thing i noticed when I hit the 60% mark. The E-mail message field is required. Lots of steamy scenes too for those looking for that kind of thrill. I won't tell you if she and her friends succeed. If a reversal of what happened can't be accomplished, the whole world will be doomed. He has been doing everything he can to keep Kimber alive.
This one is a whole lot steamier than the first. With her latest reanimation, Kimberly immediately senses something isn't right. When he drew away, her lashes fluttered and swept up to show slightly dazed eyes. He can keep her safe from others-but not from the insatiable carnal hunger he feels for her. Kimber Treat is an ordinary woman with an extraordinary gift: she can raise the dead. Duncan and Kimber have their hands full, in not just in the war with the walking dead either.
I didn't know this was the second book of this series so I would love to read the first book. I did enjoy some of the humor, flirtations and secondary characters, but there just wasn't enough to keep me interested. All and all, a good read and one that keeps me thinking-where can I find one of these vampires? The Vampire Queen needs Kimber to bring her twice dead lover back but this kind of thing is not done nor does Kimber want to do it. He softened up a bit towards the end and we see more of his humanity, although he can still kick ass. She brings this up a lot, often complaining about it to herself but then acting different from her thoughts. Time is about to run out for Kimber though and tough irrevocable choices will have to be made. Duncan and Atticus are my favorite characters from the book.
Kimber is by his side but anything could happen. I like alpha males and enjoyed his point of view. The world as we knew it has just come to an end. But after a normal session goes horribly wrong, Kimber reali 2. He knows Kimber has reservations when it comes to getting involved with him and he gives her space when she needs it. What she thought was just a normal raising for her turned into something so wrong.
But this does contain some high heat and teeters between romance and erotic romance. Kimber is a necromancer and she blames herself for unleashing something dark from the other side which is turning humans into zombies. The writing flowed easily and the dialogue made me laugh at times. Protected, even though he was what he was. The action, romance and supernatural balance in this book, and indeed in the series, is perfectly balanced, and it is a unique and interesting take on the zombie apocalypse I've certainly never read anything with zombies and vampires in it before! Same love different setting type person so this one appeared right up my alley, and for the most part it was. I love Vampire and Zombie book I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.
It was a cross between The Walking Dead and Twilight. You have a glimpse of what is to come but anything could go wrong and there are a few hints that things will not be easy. Our story fast forwards to six months later where Kimber, her friend Natalie, are hold up in an apartment building with Duncan and his fey friend Aodhán. Their tension, albeit second hand, was natural and real to me. During all that time, only Kimber made him feel human again and not a monster.
Kimber and her friends are holed up in an apartment complex that has been safeguarded to keep away zombies. One night when doing a routine raising to find out who killed the victim in front of her, something goes horribly wrong and the zombie apocalypse begins. She senses John Whitcomb isn't the only one residing in his body. Now living in an apartment with her best friend Nathalie, a fey warrior and sometimes Duncan, the brooding second in command vampire who she's always been attracted to but has only ever kissed once. There's so much happening, Kimber is pregnant, trying to end the horror that walks outside the gates of their gated community while keeping herself in check.
While the title of the book rubbed me the wrong way the story itself was amazing! As society shuts down and flesh-eating hordes close in, Duncan vows to protect Kimber. Another thing that I liked was the fact that all was not always well in Kimber and Duncan's paradise, they seemed to have quite a few problems in their relationship in this book, and unlike many book characters, they recognised that having sex wasn't necessarily the answer not that they didn't enjoy it. Duncan needs Kimber in ways he never thought possible but she's proving to be a tough nut to crack. After another moment or so she stretched out with her mind to the bit of the Unseen that animated the zombie. She was adorable when she was confused. I didn't feel like there was much growth with the characters but the end of the book did a good job of wrapping up the storyline.
