They are visually different from most children's book pictures. Some of the points I found specially interesting in this story: The Emperor looking for an honest person to be his successor. One day, the Emperor of China declared that he needed to choose a successor. Like the emperor, he loves flowers and anything he plants bursts into bloom. I look forward to continuing to read this book in my class, while adding an emphasis on the cultural perspective of China. Ping did his best taking care of his seed, giving to it the best soil and water, but the flower never sprouted. Everyone in the kingdom loved flowers too, even the Emperor.

Anything he planted burst into bloom. The teachable moments in this book are endless! Can't wait to pick up more by Demi. It also incorporates many vocabulary words that relate to China. Literary elements at work in the story: The setting brings images of a beautiful garden and a very tranquil environment, yet dishonesty still exists. The language used in the story is not authentic, but the understanding and empathy that we develop for the main character is. Ping is the subject of a Chinese emperor who is exceptionally gifted at growing things. Everyone in his kingdom loved plants and because there were so many the air smelled like perfume.

Finally on the day the children were to present the Emperor with the flowers they had grown, every child had pots filled with beautiful flowers, but Ping did not. Everyone but one person can get these beautiful flowers to grow. When the year was up, the Emperor invited all of the children to return with their flowers. It helps children understand the value of truth, hard work and courage. Because of his honesty, Ping was declared the next Emperor of China.

Set in China, this folktale teaches us the importance of honesty. It shows children how honesty and perseverance pays off for the little boy Ping and makes him emperor. Demi's exquisite art and beautifully simple text show how Ping's seeming failure is turned around in this satisfying tale of honesty rewarded. The Empty Pot is a wonderful story about a young boy, Ping, who lived in China. At the end, Ping is honest about his seed and is rewarded for his truthfulness.

The story of the talents as told in Matthew could also be used to illustrate how the Bible might look at doing our best and being rewarded for it. It shows children how honesty and perseverance pays off for the little boy Ping and makes him emperor. This is such a great book!! Now, Ping was not the only person in China who loved flowers since all the people loved flowers, especially the Emperor. One day the Emperor decided he needed to find a successor to his throne. He decided that he was going to let the flowers decide who would be the next Emperor of China. Extraordinarily delicate Oriental landscapes in round frames show Chinese architecture, foliage, native birds and clothing in a delightful way. I absolutely love this story about being honest and putting forth one's best effort! The students really take to it and try to understand.

When it is time for the old king to choose his successor, he tests the children of the land by giving them each a seed to cultivate and bring to him within a year. The Emperor loved flowers too. He gave the children of China flower seeds to plant and explained that whoever could show the best flower in a year would be the next Emperor. And that was what the emperor was looking for in his new heir. The Emperor was impressed with Ping's courage and honesty and rewarded him with making him Emperor of all the land.

Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, she lives in Carnation, Washington. All of the other children had replaced the cooked seeds with real flower seeds to try and grow the best flower. One day the Emperor decided he needed to find a successor to his throne. Each page contains a single picture, shaped like a stiff, rounded, paper fan and framed in celadon brocade that subtly changes pattern from one spread to the next. They wanted me to read it to them twice ina r Wonderful book to use with students about the importance of being honest. The story illuminates the experience of members of a particular group and the text requires that characters be of a particular culture. It was a test that only Ping had passed.

So for an entir The Empty Pot by Demi is one of the cutest picture books I have read. Finally, I created a story basket to teach the chiuldren about sequencing with this story. Get this now and you will be rewarded!!! Ping loved flowers, and he loved to grow flowers. The story is about China and how the emperor will pick the next person to led the country. There is no hint of any stereotyping of any sort and the story would be applicable for any socioeconomic, cultural or racial setting and the applicability of the lesson clear to all Scripture: 2 Timothy 2:15-16: Theology: The image that first came to me was the Garden of Eden and how beautiful it must have been and how the air might have smelled like perfume. . We loved the illustrations in this story and although we liked both tales very much, I think this is our favorite of the two. It teaches to tell the truth and that if you have tried all that is within you then your best will always be good enough. We should take pride in who we are and know that if we continue to thrive to reach our goals, we can do nothing but improve upon ourselves day by day. Ping's does not grow, but the other children present big plants.
